The
34 members of Tri-City Singers hail from three distinctive areas
from which the name was inspired: Spartanburg/Greenville, South
Carolina; Gastonia, North Carolina; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Among the many gospel choirs that exist today, the group has become
known for its quality of music, much to the credit of Lawrence,
who contributes his extensive mainstream music experience to the
project.
When
Tri-City Singers released their first recording on the fledgling
record label GospoCentric in 1993, the group was rewarded with early
success. "A Songwriters Point of View" climbed effortlessly
to the number two position on Billboard's Gospel Album chart, and
made the Tri-City Singers one of Billboard's top-ten gospel groups.
The Tri-City Singers rounded out the year with Stellar Awards as
well as an NAACP Image Award nomination. But the success could not
have been possible without several key individuals working behind
the scenes, lending their talents to launch one of today's premier
gospel music groups.
